People living in a Broads village have vowed to "sell up and leave" if plans for new homes are given the green light.

Dozens of locals in Reedham have objected to proposals for a new development on their doorsteps, which they say will "destroy the magic" of their area.

The plans to extend Barn Owl Close with 27 additional properties, built by developer Badger Building, have been met with widespread opposition due to concerns about increased strain on local infrastructure and the loss of rural character in the village.

Some of those living in Reedham have even pledged to sell their homes if the plans are approved by Broadland councillors at a meeting next week, according to objections lodged with the council.

David Breeze, 80, was one villager to argue against the re-routing of the path, which currently runs along the northern boundary by Yareview Close before going across a field to connect with Cliff Close.

"Pleasant green rural footpaths which are also very useful wildlife corridors are cherished by residents and should not be allowed to turn a rural environment into an urban one."

While this view was initially shared by Norfolk County Council's public rights of way team, their objection was withdrawn after developers agreed to widen the new pathway.

The application will be considered by Broadland Council's planning committee on Monday, where members have been advised by council officials to give their approval.
