A man assaulted a police officer just two days after being released from prison, a court has heard.
David Dixey, of no fixed abode, had been caught stealing a bottle of wine and a tube of Pringles, worth a total of £11 - from the Co-op in Market Place, Dereham last Friday.
Staff called police but when an officer went to arrest him, they were kicked in the shins.
Norwich Magistrates' Court heard a statement from the officer, who said Dixey had shouted "I hope that kills you" as he was cuffed.
Dixey pleaded guilty to both the theft and the assault on the police officer.
The court was told he had only been released from prison on Wednesday, just two days before the incident.
Dixey was held in custody from Friday until his court hearing on Monday.

A statement from a shop worker said that before Dixey entered the store he was seen drunk outside, “laughing in the street”.
He was sentenced by way of a financial penalty. A total of £200 will be consolidated with existing fines to the court which will be taken from his benefits allowance.
He has now been released.
