A popular chippy on the outskirts of the city is making some changes after being taken over by new management.

The Frying Machine in Furze Road, Thorpe St Andrew, has introduced some new food to the menu and reduced prices.

It comes after Miles Richardson, who also owns Long John Hill Fish Bar, took over the chippy at the start of September.

He hopes his second foray into chip shop ownership is successful and is tweaking some things to make sure.

Mr Richardson said: "The Frying Machine is a great fish and chip shop with a good reputation so it just felt like a natural progression to expand into.

"I officially took over September 9 and have spent the last few weeks tidying up the place a little and we've already had our food hygiene rating - which was five stars - that we're happy with."

"We're also altering some things such as a few tweaks to the menu, extra items and revising the prices - in a downward direction."

Some of the tweaks include introducing boneless fish to the menu along with Lemon Sole and a seafood basket.

Mr Richardson is leaning on the "wealth of experience" of those currently running the shop to keep up the business' good name.

He added: "The assistant manager has been here 15 years and the manager 23 years, so there's a wealth of experience here already.

"It means the shop can continue as normal and we've been able to stay open while all the work has been going on.

"It's exciting and we're pleased with all the support we've received already from people."

The Frying Machine is open from 11.45am to 1.45pm and again, from 4.30pm to 8pm, Monday to Saturday.
