Ex-Norfolk MP becomes director at silo hire firm in Great Yarmouth

Duncan Baker, who was North Norfolk’s MP for five years before losing his seat at the last election, has been appointed as a director at ATI Tank Hire in Great Yarmouth.

The company, based at Great Yarmouth Business Park, supplies tanks and silos to the oil and gas, environmental and construction industries.

Mr Baker, who is a chartered accountant, will be on the firm's board as a non-executive director.

Mr Baker became North Norfolk’s Conservative MP in 2019 before losing his seat to the Liberal Democrats in May's election.

ATI Tank Hire, which was established in 1983, boasts the widest range of tanks and silos in the UK - from small transportation or acid tanks, to more than 100 cubic metres of vertical storage, the size of a double-decker bus.

The firm is owned by Susanne Lumsden, widow of its late founder Charles, who died in 2020.

ATI Tank Hire has worked on projects such as the Shard, in London, Crossrail, the Mersey Gateway, Heathrow, HS2 and Tideway. 

Mrs Lumsden said: "I cannot think of anyone more suited than Duncan to help with strategic advice and planning as ATI continues to consolidate and expand into markets locally and internationally.

"But there is more than simply Duncan’s blue-chip accounting credentials. It's his years of experience as a finance director of the CT Baker Group and his time in public service, including representing North Norfolk as an MP.
