A 73-year-old made a shocking discovery in his outside toilet after returning home from holiday.

Gary A Edmond, from Ten Mile Bank near Downham Market, had just got back from a trip to sunny Florida when he discovered something surprising in his bathroom.

"I saw a huge thing that shouldn't exist where it did," he said. "An incredible structure had appeared from nowhere in my outside toilet.

Mr Edmond said that the hornets have yet to hurt him and that above all he is looking forward to having his outside loo back.

The large nest could be housing up to 10,000 hornets and is still growing (Image: Gary A Edmond)"The outside bathroom is useful for when you're gardening. The nest is getting longer so right now I'm avoiding it.

"They're big things and they fly around you and can do some pretty big damage. Millenium Pest Control is going to remove it next Tuesday but that is a while yet."

A spokesman for Millenium Pest Control added: "It's not unusual for hornet's nests to be of a big scope of about 5,000 to 10,000 hornets this time of year."
