A new lift and air conditioning are set to be installed at a town's historic theatre.

Fenland council has agreed the upgrades at the Angles Theatre, in Wisbech.

A planning statement said the changes would "enhance the business, making the building more accessible and user-friendly".

The Angles, off Alexandra Road, comprises a pair of Grade II listed buildings dating back to the 18th century.

A planning officer's report said: "There is clearly a public benefit to ensuring this building remains fit for purpose into the future."

Advisory body the Theatres Trust added: "Angles Theatre is an important community and cultural venue for Wisbech. It is a registered charity largely staffed by volunteers."

Wisbech Town Council also supported the plans.
