The founder of a Norfolk zoo will share his story at an exclusive event next month.

Martin Goymour founded Banham Zoo in 1968 and it originally housed a collection of parrots and pheasants.

Over the decades that followed, a range of diverse species were introduced and Banham Zoo became a popular family day out for locals.

Mr Goymour and his family spearheaded these developments until 2013 when the Zoological Society of East Anglia (ZSEA) charity was founded to secure the venue's future.

On Friday, October 5, he will return to Banham to chat with an audience about his experiences, including the development of several conservation schemes that are still ongoing today.

Josh Hunter-Harl, ZSEA's head of income generation, said: "We are very excited to welcome our founder, Martin Goymour, back to where it all started to Banham Zoo.

"It will be a unique and extraordinary evening to discover the story of Banham Zoo from the founder himself and allow our guests to delve into the history of a much-loved family day out.

"We can’t wait to hear Martin’s story in his own words and truly go behind the scenes of what it took to build Banham Zoo.

"As a conservation charity, we are all about education and saving species, so having the opportunity for guests to explore where it all started is not only fascinating but really shows the efforts from day one of our conservation journey and the importance of saving animals."

The event will start with complimentary drinks and canapés at 5pm and will end at 8pm.

Tickets cost £25 per person and can be booked online.

ZSEA members can enter at the discounted price of £20 per person.
