A driver from Norwich who crashed into traffic lights after driving on the wrong side of the road has been disqualified.

Luke Roberts, 41, was at the wheel of a BMW when he attempted to flee from police in Cambridge. 

Officers on patrol in an unmarked car on November 27 last year spotted the car driving the wrong way down a street.

The vehicle made off but shortly after crashed into a set of traffic lights.

Roberts, of Beverley Road, Norwich, ran from the vehicle when police arrived. He was arrested after a chase but then refused to provide a sample of breath.

He was disqualified from driving for a year at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis. 

He must also pay a £200 fine.

PC Sarah Pride, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: “Drink and drug driving puts road users at risk and we will not tolerate it in our county.”
