A piece of wasteland on the edge of an estate just outside of Norwich could be turned into a new BMX and cycle track if local councillors gets their way.

Gary and Sharon Blundell, Costessey town councillors, have met with South Norfolk Council about taking over an area of land below the Queen's Hills estate for the project.

If successful, young people from the area will be able to design and build a mixed-use BMX and cycle track which will be managed and maintained by a group of locals.

"It's early days but South Norfolk Council have no issue with it as we had previously floated this idea with them before.

"But they have said they would want the land to go to a charity or community group who would then be responsible for keeping it safe, having insurance and following all the health and safety policies."

Gary and Sharon will be forming an official group in the coming months before securing funding for the project.
