A police incident has closed a road for more than eight hours disrupting commuters into the city.

Officers closed Harvey Lane at the junction with Yarmouth Road shortly after midnight.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 1am with the two fire crews being stood down around 30 minutes later.

A strong smell of petrol remains in the area with a sand-like substance scattered over the road.

The road sign at the junction was also damaged in the incident.
