A keen photographer has turned an old cable reel into a giant toadstool to attract wildlife into her garden.

Julie Smart from Grimston, near King's Lynn, was given the wooden spool by a friend.

She spent around £30 on paint and materials to decorate it with - including fairies and mini toadstools - before placing it in the garden of her home.

"I painted it and added autumn fruits, acorns, fungi, fur cones, grass and other decorations and created a little path leading to the fairy door and transformed it into a fairy tale toadstool.

"I’m a wildlife photographer so I was looking forward to seeing the wildlife playing around on it."

Estate agent Mrs Smart did not have to wait long.

Squirrels and birds began feeding on the top of the drum within days of it being completed.

Now she has also discovered bank voles have burrowed underneath to reach seeds other animals drop, which fall through the spool to the ground.
