Mystery shrouds the death of a man in his 50s who was found dead in his home.

The body of 59-year-old John Elumelu was discovered in his home in Melton Constable in August.

An inquest into his death opened on Tuesday, September 17, more than a month after his death.

The court heard that when Mr Elumelu was found his body was decomposed to the point that a medical cause of his death could not be determined.

Yvonne Blake, area coroner for Norfolk, confirmed that his body was identified by the police following the discovery of his body after a marking was taken from the palm of his hand.

This was then matched with his fingerprints, which the constabulary had on record.

His identity was then also confirmed by his ex-partner - and the mother of his children.

Mrs Blake added that Mr Elumelu was not in employment at the time of his death and was born in Stepney in London.

She adjourned the case until Tuesday, January 21.
