A huge four-storey hotel could be built at a Norfolk racetrack as part of ambitious plans to develop the site.

MotorSport Vision, owners of Snetterton circuit, have lodged proposals with Breckland Council for new guest accommodation at the site.

This forms part of a wider scheme to expand the existing course with offices, research facilities and a new state-of-the-art simulation centre, offering virtual driving experiences. 

However, the 135-bedroom hotel is set to become the centrepiece of the Snetterton plans, described by developers as a "landmark feature" which would be visible from the A11.

The circuit sits on a former RAF airfield and saw its first race more than 70 years ago.

It now hosts rounds of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car, Bennetts British Superbike and British GT Championships, as well as festivals and car shows. 

MotorSport Vision, owned by former Formula One racing driver Jonathan Palmer, has proposed the expansion of the park into an adjacent site. 

While there are currently camping facilities at Snetterton circuit, these new plans will see a four-storey hotel erected to offer a new kind of accommodation for guests. 

The 33-acre site, which is currently vacant, has also been earmarked for a cafe, industrial units and motorsport workshop space.

The developers say "initial discussions" are under way with Breckland Council and Norfolk County Council about the potential delivery of a new training facility as part of the proposals.

Breckland Council will decide whether to approve the application in due course.
