A school has been named a finalist for a national award.

Norwich High School for Girls has been selected as a finalist in the Independent Girls’ School of the Year category for the Independent Schools of the Year 2024 awards.

The awards aim to celebrate the achievements of independent schools.

Norwich High School for Girls was also shortlisted in the Independent Pre-Prep School of the Year category.

The school believes this recognition highlights its commitment to education and student support.

The award submission for Independent Girls’ School of the Year focused on the school's ethos, which prioritises approach over attainment.

Alison Sefton, head of Norwich High, said: “We are girls-first and know that girls put enough pressure on themselves without more pressure linked to attainment.

"By focussing on approach we are having a broader impact as girls can nurture their own individual interests and strengths."

She added: "We prioritise pastoral care alongside academic and co-curricular with an experienced and motivated team across the school implementing a comprehensive pastoral programme."

In a recent survey, 97pc of parents agreed that their child is happy at Norwich High and 96pc agreed that the school helps their child to make good progress.

Norwich High School for Girls' exam results are also among the best in the region.

In 2024, the school was named the top Independent School in Norfolk in the Sunday Times Parent Power League 2024 based on the 2023 examination results at GCSE and A Level.

The overall winners of each Independent Schools of the Year award will be announced on October 8 at an awards ceremony in London.
