Drivers will face weeks of diversions while part of a busy junction is widened to make it easier for buses to turn.

Norfolk County Council said Lynn Road at Heacham will be closed between Monday, September 16, and Thursday, October 24, while the work is in progress.

Vehicles will be diverted via Hunstanton Road and Butterfield Meadow while the work is in progress.

Part of the B1454 will also be closed overnight from Wednesday, October 9, and Friday, October 18, for resurfacing work where it meets the A149.

Lynx Bus services between Heacham and Hunstanton will be affected during the closure and will not be able to use stops at Nourse Drive, Ringstead Road and Norfolk Lavender, while buses will be diverted via Hunstanton Road.

The county council said: "We understand that disruption on the roads and to bus services is frustrating and would like to apologise for any inconvenience this work causes.

"We would like to thank everyone affected for their patience while construction takes place and we will be working with our contractor, Tarmac, throughout to minimise the impact as much as possible."

It said the work was being carried out to improve the left-hand turn from the Lynn Road in Heacham onto the A149 to make it easier for large and long vehicles.

It will also be widening Lynn Road on the bend as it approaches the junction to remove a "pinch-point".

"These changes will help improve traffic flow through the area, including for buses, contributing to improvements to journey times and reliability for services using the area," the council said.

Resurfacing of the A149, Lynn Road and B1454 junction will also be carried out.
