A fresh push has been made for a railway station to be built at one of the city’s main business sites.

Norfolk County Council has named Broadland Business Park as a priority location for a new station in the county.

The news has reignited a push to get behind the estimated £20m project, which would sit along the Norwich to Sheringham line.

Ian Mackie, county councillor for Thorpe St Andrew, said: "I'm delighted that the Broadland Business Park railway station is stated as a priority, something I have long championed.

"The park is now home to countless businesses as well as the new Broadland Police Station and Broadland District Council Headquarters.

"This railway station would offer a regular alternative to driving in and out of Norwich and beyond, providing a key piece of sustainable infrastructure delivering both jobs and homes to the East of Norwich.

"A new railway station would be a massive win for the community and while it would require significant funding, it's really exciting for the long-term development of the area.

"This was one of two key pieces of infrastructure I wanted when the Dussindale estate was built, along with the primary school.

"A rail stop in the district would bring huge opportunities, opening up links to the eastern region and the rest of the country.

"Making public transport more easily available and reducing the number of cars on our roads has to be the way forward.

"A rail link there will deliver massive benefits to our local communities and support our commitment to protecting our environment."

People have until October 21 to have their say.
