A homeowner has been blocked from building a two-metre fence in his front garden - even though he has one in his back garden.
Andrew Mosur-Bavington applied for permission to replace the boundary outside his home on Church Lane, Gorleston with a slightly higher one which would match the rear of the property.
But Great Yarmouth Borough Council planners refused, saying the taller fence would be a "harsh feature", "harmful" and "out of character".
They said that one-metre front fences were part of the area's "vernacular" and that a two-metre one would be "visually jarring".

The refusal of the plans has been a surprise to the applicant, as he had hoped the new boundary at the front of the property would be the same height as the panels already standing at the rear.
Mr Mosur-Bavington has 12 weeks to appeal the decision.
