A 190ft abnormal load is set to cause delays for motorists as it is transported across Norfolk on the A47.

The 178-tonne transformer will be moved on September 15 from King's Lynn Port to the National Grid's substation in Norwich.

Due to its size, the load will move very slowly at 10mph and will be escorted by police who may also temporarily hold traffic where necessary.

At around midday, the abnormal load will leave the A47 at Ipswich Road junction to complete its journey on local roads.

The A47 westbound carriageway will not be affected.

To minimise delays, some activities, such as the removal of road signs, will be carried out ahead of the transportation.

Once installed, the transformer will allow the National Grid to provide renewable energy to homes and businesses.

Anyone with any questions regarding the movement is asked to contact National Grid.
