Motorists making the journey home earlier this week were unaware they were under the watchful eye of the law.

Police confirmed it held a "proactive Fatal Four enforcement" check on Monday and Tuesday evening this week, carried out by the Roads and Armed Policing Team.

The check happened during rush hour on the outskirts of the city centre, along Bracondale, down to the junction with King Street and near County Hall.

The Fatal Four offences are drink or drug driving, using a mobile phone, speeding and not wearing a seatbelt.

One motorist said: "I was on my way out of the city and first noticed someone with two walkie talkies on him, near the lights where King Street is.

"Then down near the County Hall roundabout there were a couple of officers and about three of four marked police cars in the run-off area opposite."

In July Norfolk Police ran a month-long campaign that targeted drivers committing the Fatal Four offences - from which there were 119 arrests and 6,268 speeding offences recorded.
