A Norfolk primary school that had just 13 pupils has closed its doors for the last time.

The decision to close Marsham Primary School came following a consultation period and determination signed by Sara Tough, executive director of children’s services at Norfolk County Council.

Governors of the Hevingham and Marsham Federation had proposed the closure of Marsham Primary School, with the consultation process beginning in November 2023.

The governing body considered the school, between Norwich and Aylsham, was no longer viable after alterative options were considered.  

 A spokesperson for Norfolk County Council said: “The number of pupils had consistently fallen over several years and in 2023, the school had 13 pupils.

"It was therefore difficult to deliver and sustain quality education for children.

“The closure consultation was also linked to a proposal by Norfolk County Council, to change the catchment area of Marsham Primary School from 1 September 2024.

“After consideration, it was determined there were sufficient places for pupils attending Marsham Primary School to be relocated to primary phase schools in the local area.

“The catchment is now to be served by schools in the Aylsham area."

The former school site is a property of the Aylsham Cluster Trust.
