Unauthorised Norfolk traveller site dubbed a 'complex' case

Issues around the site at Back Lane in Stanfield, near Dereham, were raised at Breckland's full council meeting on September 5. 

Robin Hunter-Clarke, who represents Hermitage Ward, asked for an update on the site and said people in the village were demanding answers.

He said: "Since being elected in May, residents have asked me to do something about this issue as they had no joy with my predecessor.

He added the situation "cannot be allowed to carry on any longer". 

In response, the council’s deputy leader and executive member for strategic and operational planning, Sarah Suggitt, said the situation was "very complex".

She said: "It's a very complex case where there are multiple agencies that are working together.

"Planning enforcement has a really limited tool box as to what they can do and what they can't do in relation to planning-related matters. 

"But this is even more complex given the circumstances within the family around it and the additional outside bodies. 

"We're trying to work really hard with those outside bodies and with our partners to make sure we have the best outcome for both the residents of the village and the family but it is a long process."

Mr Hunter-Clarke said after the meeting: "I am actively pushing the planning enforcement team to now get on with the injunction application.

"It has been going on for too many years now.

"I will be doing my very best to ensure that the residents of Stanfield and all the surrounding villages are not forgotten about and that planning law is enforced by Breckland."
