A coastal charity secured nearly £1,400 from a tennis tournament.

The National Coastwatch Institution (NCI), which has a lookout at Brancaster Beach, saw its coffers boosted by the Hunstanton Lawn Tennis Tournament.

The organisation acts as 'eyes along the coast' ensuring safety at sea and the UK's shoreline, with volunteers stationed at 60 sites in England and Wales.

The closest to Hunstanton is by the sea wall adjacent to the Royal West Norfolk Golf Club, at Brancaster.

Every year, the tennis tournament backs a local charity, and this year NCI (Brancaster) was chosen, receiving a £500 donation.

Further funds came from Top Spin Tennis, a long-standing tournament supporter, and a bucket collection, totalling £1,396.

Mark Thompson from NCI (Brancaster) said: “The support of local organisations, such as the Hunstanton Lawn Tennis Tournament, and the community in the area is absolutely critical for the continued success of the station."

The Hunstanton Lawn Tennis Tournament has been a fixture for over a century, known as the UK's largest of its type.

This year saw more than 1,000 competitors take part across 38 grass courts.

Andrew Creighton, Tournament chairman, said: “NCI (Brancaster) performs a vital job along the popular Brancaster coastline and the Tournament was delighted to support the charity this year.”
