A man who was arrested following a major blaze near a Norfolk seaside destination has been released on bail. 

Fire crews were called to a fire in Wells-next-the-Sea on Thursday, August 29.

The blaze ravaged through a wooded area in East Hills and continued into Friday.

A man in his sixties was arrested on suspicion of arson and taken to King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre where he was questioned. 

A spokesman for the police said: "He has been bailed and is to appear at King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre on November 28.

"The investigation is ongoing."

Nadia Stamp, 42, who lives near the quay, was out on her morning run at 5am on Friday morning when she saw the flames.

She said: "I couldn't believe what I saw. I knew about it on Thursday but I was not expecting to see that.

"When I came home from work around 5pm on Friday, I looked over and it looked completely out.

Miss Stamp was concerned about the damage the fire caused to the beauty spot.

She said those living in Wells-next-the-Sea hold "nature spots very dear to our hearts here".

Miss Stamp added: "I've talked to other locals and some use East Hills as their little sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the summer town. 

"And East Hills is full of natural wildlife."

Greg Hewitt, clerk for Wells Town Council, said: "Obviously, it is always sad when incidents like this occur.

"We must all be thankful to the emergency services and other volunteers who worked tirelessly over two days to bring the fire under control."
