Those who receive means-tested benefits, such as Universal Credit, can gain subsidised or completely free entry to these five unique experiences in Norwich.

1) Norwich Castle Museum

Norwich Castle Museum is offering free entry for visitors who receive means-tested benefits.

Guests can currently browse an extensive collection of museum treasures with highlights including an exhibit dedicated to Boudica, the Queen of Iceni, and sections surrounding natural history and the Ancient Egyptians.

The medieval castle, dungeons and battlements themselves are currently closed due to an ongoing £20m development but will reopen with a fresh new look in 2025.

2) Norwich Castle Art Gallery

Norwich Castle also boasts 10 art galleries, all of which are accessible through general admission for Universal Credit claimants. 

The galleries are located across the ground and first floors of Norwich Castle.

Current highlights include a special exhibition, "Holding Space", dedicated to nearly 50 works of contemporary art exploring our relationship with the space around us, as well as the famous painting 'The Paston Treasure'.

3) The Sainsbury's Centre

The Sainsbury's Centre has recently introduced a 'Pay If and What You Can' system, meaning families can now enjoy a visit to the art museum without paying a penny.

The museum is nestled on the edge of UEA's campus and hosts a collection of global treasures, as well as a scenic cafe with a view of sculptures displayed in the garden.

Its current exhibit, 'The Camera Never Lies', reevaluates the past 100 years of culture-defining images and the power that photography has in both shaping and distorting global events.

4) Hellesdon Library LEGO club

Hellesdon Library hosts a free LEGO club every Saturday from 10.30am to 12.00pm, accessible to all.

The club encourages children to build whatever they can imagine, while also issuing a new building theme each week to help both guide and challenge their creativity.

No booking is required, but an adult must accompany children under eight years old.

5) MyTheatre perks

Norwich Theatre runs the MyTheatre scheme, designed to make the creative arts as accessible as possible for locals.

The scheme includes free or subsidised entry to theatre-run 'Take Part' activities, such as cultural celebration days and movement classes.

It also allows Universal Credit claimants to access theatre tickets for just £10, saving seats for those who may not be able to afford to see a performance otherwise.
