A lifeboat station has celebrated the busy month of August including unveiling a new visitor’s area and a three-generational family visit.

During August, Happisburgh RNLI volunteers celebrated the 200th anniversary of the organisation.

The station hosted an open day on August 4, which provided an opportunity for the public to meet up with volunteers and witness their efforts.

Aside from this, visitors were given the chance to tour a newly opened visitors area showcasing the history of marine rescue operations in Happisburgh, dating back to 1810, and its affiliation with the RNLI since 1866.

Hundreds flocked to the event, leading to £2,000 raised to keep services operationally ready.

Moving forward, the visitor’s area is accessible every Thursday from 10am to 1pm, wherein team members will be present to provide further information.

Group tours and off-hour visits can be scheduled through the Lifeboat Visits Officer, Simon Tibble.

The festivities continued on 20 August when the Phoenix family, spanning three generations visited.

Carrie Phoenix said: "Three generations of our family attended which included 12 of us from the ages of eight months to 71 years.

"We were staying at Eccles on Sea for the week as a celebration for my 70th birthday.

"We have spent a lot of time on this part of the Norfolk coast, and visit the RNLI Happisburgh shop regularly so were really pleased to have a tour of the station and meet some of the staff."

Finally, the station's Water Safety team has been actively distributing safety advice throughout the local beaches and the broads.

The best advice if you enter any water unexpectedly or get in trouble while in the water is to Float to Live, lay on your back, arms and legs spread out, head back and ears in the water, then call for help.
