The team at The Artichoke have released a statement on the future of the business after the building's owner was convicted of rape.

Kevin Tweedy, 66, who used to run the Norwich pub in Magdalen Road, was found guilty after a four-day trial.

He was also convicted of sexual assault by the jury at King's Lynn Crown Court.

Sentencing was adjourned until October 11 by Recorder Rouse KC, who presided over the trial.

Tweedy has been bailed until that date, after being warned by the judge that he faces jail.

In a statement on social media, The Artichoke said: "Yesterday, as a team, we learned that Kevin Tweedy, the man who owns the building of The Artichoke, was found guilty of two very serious charges.

It continued: "We are very sorry to his victim and to anyone affected by his actions.

"We have been assured that this man will not step foot onto these premises again and is remaining outside of Norwich until his sentencing.

"Unfortunately, some of our staff are not in a position to simply walk away from our jobs.

"As such, the pub and bottle shop will continue to function in a limited capacity for the next month until we all can find further employment.

"Please treat our staff with respect as we navigate this last month of The Artichoke as it stands.

"Thank you to everyone who has made this pub an absolute pleasure to work in the last few years.

"To our friends, past staff and our amazing regulars, thank you."
