A takeaway giant has launched another bid to extend its opening hours after its previous application was denied amid objections from neighbours.

Papa John’s in Colman Road has re-submitted plans to stay open until 4am after a recent hearing by the licencing team granted it permission to operate until this time.

This ruling paved the way for the firm to make another application to Norwich City Council, despite the authority turning down its original request last year.

The first application was made in December 2022 and received objections from those living nearby over concerns about noise.

New documents submitted by Usman Naeem, acting on behalf of Papa John's, state: "We have been granted permission from the licensing team to operate until 4am, any day of the week, after considering all the valid points during the hearing.

"This is our second application for extended hours as the first application was refused due to noise issues.

"We've provided a noise assessment report which confirms the low noise impact."

The assessment was carried out between July 18 and 19, by company Peak Acoustics, to determine whether people are likely to "suffer a loss of amenity as a result of noise" from the proposed extension.

It carried measurements of background noise in and around the shop and also during the highest and lowest "working points" of the installed fan unit.

The conclusion of the assessment predicted the night-time noise impact would be "low" at the site.

It added the nearest or most-affected area would be the first floor flat next door to the site.

Those wishing to comment on the application have until September 17 with an internal recommendation date by the case officer of October 22.
