A former teacher at a Norfolk private school has been banned from the profession after kissing one of his pupils at a nightclub.

Jack Valentine spent just five days working at Gresham's School in Holt before a kiss with a student brought his career to a halt.

The incident occurred while 25-year-old Mr Valentine was working at Taunton School in Somerset as a trainee, just months before landing a job at the north Norfolk boarding school.

Now, following a misconduct hearing carried out by the Teaching Regulation Agency, he has been banned from returning to the profession.

A panel heard that in June 2022, Mr Valentine had acted as a chaperone for an end-of-year ball at the Somerset school, where he had been working as a trainee teacher.

The celebration then moved on to a nightclub, where Mr Valentine admitted to kissing one of his teenage pupils.

In September of the same year, Mr Valentine then landed a job at Gresham's as a teacher.

However on September 9 the school was informed of the incident, and immediately suspended the new recruit.

He then resigned from his role on September 30, while still under investigation.

Sue Richmond, deputy head, said: "We were informed by Somerset's local authority designated officer (LADO) on September 9 of an incident which occurred at the end of the summer term at Mr Valentine's previous school.

"The LADO failed to inform Gresham's about the incident before the start of our term.

"We suspended Mr Valentine on September 9 and he never returned to Gresham's.

"He taught at Gresham's for five days and resigned from his post at the end of September."

In a report banning Mr Valentine from the profession, TRA decision maker Sarah Buxcey wrote: "The case involved conduct, which was in a sexual nature, involving a pupil."

Mr Valentine will be able to appeal the panel's decision after two years.
