A bid to install security shutters on a village shop has been turned down - because they would make the community feel unsafe.
Fenland Council has refused an application to install security roller shutters on the front of the Londis store in Gorefield, near Wisbech.
A planning report said the immediate area was at "low risk" of crime and there had been "insufficient justification submitted to demonstrate that the proposed shutters are necessary".

It added: "The introduction of such measures as external roller shutters can adversely affect an area and can increase the perception that the area is unsafe; such measures are often considered to be triggers of crime or an indication that a crime is likely to take place.
"The proposed shutters are considered a stark and oppressive introduction to the street scene and could give the impression that the area is unsafe."
