Rugby lovers in Wymondham are kicking off their new season with a festival weekend at Barnard Fields.

The minis, youth and senior squads are ready for action again after the summer break, with entertainment, food and drink, and family fun all part of the party.

And the celebrations are not just for the players.

Organiser Jon Titlow said: “It’s a great way for everyone to get back together again after the summer break."

He added that the festival is expected to be the largest ever, with more than 1,000 people potentially turning up.

Live music, exhibition games, and a vast array of drinks are on offer, with 40 ales, six craft beers, 10 different ciders, and a selection of gins and rums set to flow.

The festival starts on the evening of August 30, with a touch rugby tournament.

The Saturday will see the Colts begin a bustling day of sport at 11am, followed by the Wasps, the women’s senior side, at 1pm.

The three senior men’s teams will be in action later in the afternoon, with the 1st XV taking on Norwich at 3.30pm.

Admission to Saturday's events is open to everyone with discounted advance tickets available on the club’s website.

On Sunday, the family fun day has free admission, offering a chance for young attendees to enjoy giant inflatables and various other activities.

The lively weekend event is the brainchild of the club's social team who have spent their summer carefully selecting the best beers, bands, and vendors.

“It’s a lot of work but a huge amount of fun too," Mr Titlow added.

The line-up includes Norwich singer-songwriter Barby Holmes, Stereotypes, and the Shanty Singers, ensuring an eventful conclusion of the Festival weekend.
