An elm tree described as "dead or dangerous" belonging to Greville Howard, Baron Howard of Rising, is set to get the chop.
The Conservative peer has had the go-ahead to fell the specimen, which grows next to the car park of the Black Horse pub at Castle Rising, near King's Lynn.
It is one of a number of trees in the village which are set to be axed after succumbing to death or disease.
West Norfolk Council said in a decision notice: "Where a dead tree is removed under this exception, there is a duty on the landowner to plant a replacement tree of an appropriate size and species at the same place as soon as reasonably possible.
"All works should be carefully planned to avoid disturbing nesting birds and roosting bats."
Lord Howard resigned from the parish council in the village before Christmas following a row over speed limits, after 35 years as chairman.
