A family-owned fish and chip shop in a Norfolk Broads village is closing after more than 60 years.

Landamore’s Fish and Chips, in Coltishall, will close for good next Saturday (August 31), owners Mark Landamore and his sister Jane Ballard have announced.

The siblings said they have made the difficult decision to close the fish and chip shop their parents first opened in 1963 as Mark continues his recovery from illness.

"After 61 wonderful years of serving our community, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Landamore’s Fish and Chips," Mark and Jane said in a joint statement.

"This decision has not been made lightly, and the last 18 months have been a very tough time for us through illness and family commitments."

Mark and Jane's parents, Roy and Sylvia Landamore, took over the village's Central Fish Shop in Church Street in 1963.

They moved to the current shop in High Street four years later, in 1967.

Roy and Sylvia retired in 1999, passing on the chippy to Mark and Jane, who have been helped in recent years by Jane's daughter, Hannah Ballard.

"It's always been my life," Mark, 59, who has worked in the fish and chip shop full-time since he turned 18, said.

"We're now serving the grandchildren of people who used to come in with their parents as children.

"If it hadn't been for health reasons we would have kept going. I'm on the road to recovery, but now is the time for me to retire.

"Coltishall is a lovely place, and standing in the shop and looking out across the common is one of the best office views you will ever find."

Mark and Jane added: "To our wonderful customers - and there has been an awful lot of you over the years - we wish you a heartfelt thank you.

"We will miss you all but hope to see some of you before we close."
