A woman denied making up rape and assault claims against a pub landlord when she gave evidence on the second day of his trial.

Kevin Tweedy, who ran the Artichoke in Magdalen Road in Norwich, is accused of raping the woman on July 20, 2015.

Tweedy, 66, whose address was given as the pub, is also accused of sexually assaulting her between January 1, 2013 and March 31 of the same year.

Tweedy denies both charges. The woman appeared in the witness box at King's Lynn Crown Court yesterday (August 20).

Under cross examination by Stephen Rose KC, defending Tweedy, she was asked about text messages exchanged between the pair around the time the alleged assault took place, after they had been out drinking.

One from the woman to Tweedy said: "Thanks for a fantastic evening - many moments I will remember forever."

Mr Rose said if there was a sexual assault, there was no reference to it in the messages.

The woman, giving evidence from behind a screen, said: "He pinned me down on the sofa when I went in for a cup of coffee. I had to push him off."

Mr Rose asked the woman why she had not gone to a place of safety after the alleged rape took place in 2015.

"You did not do this because it never happened, did it," he added.

But the woman replied: "You're totally incorrect, he raped me."

The jury were earlier shown extracts from the woman's 2015 diary.

Matthew Sorel-Cameron, for the prosecution, asked her why she had written "Tearful" in her entry for July 21.

"Because of what happened the day before," she replied.

Asked what happened the day before by Mr Sorel-Cameron, the woman said: "In the evening, the late evening of the day before, I was raped by Kevin Tweedy."

The trial, before Recorder Rouse KC, continues.
