The vehicle had been reported stolen less than an hour earlier, from Pottergate, in Norwich.

At the time of the crash, the bike was heading to Great Yarmouth while the Audi was travelling towards Norwich.

Police have said they were not involved in a pursuit of the bike at the time of the crash, which happened at around 11.40pm on Friday.

A spokeswoman said that at 10.50pm the force had received a call from a member of the public that two men were in the process of stealing a motorbike on Pottergate.

An officer was sent to the scene and was there at 11pm. A search of the area was carried out, but there was no sign of the men or the motorcycle.

They have since established that it was the same vehicle as the one involved in the crash.

Following the incident, the A47 Acle Straight remained closed for more than 12 hours, as police carried out their investigations.

It was not reopened to traffic until after 1pm on Saturday.

The driver of the Audi TT was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash, seen the vehicles beforehand or have any relevant dashcam footage to get in touch.
