An inquest into the death of a 65-year-old man who was found dead after being reported missing has opened.
Emergency services spent days searching for Philip Edwards, known as Phil, last month after he left his home in the early hours of July 5.
Police appealed for help in efforts to find Mr Edwards, with firefighters, lowland search and result, and the coastguard all involved in the operation.
However, on Tuesday, July 9, he was tragically found dead in the river Bure at Coltishall, in the Horstead Mill area.
An inquest into his death opened on Monday, August 19 at Norfolk Coroner's Court, during which details of his death were provided.
Jacqueline Lake, senior coroner for Norfolk, told the court that Mr Edwards was born near Wolverhampton and lived in Old Catton. He was employed as a lecturer.
Mrs Lake confirmed that the provisional medical cause of his death was drowning.
Following the short hearing, which lasted around a minute, Mrs Lake adjourned the case for a full inquest, to be held on December 2.
