A "treasured" family man who had been bed-bound for three days died from sepsis, a court has heard.
An inquest into Vincent Gauci's death was opened at Norwich Coroner's Court this week.
Based at County Hall, the court heard how Mr Gauci, of Church Lane in Shipdham, near Dereham, was admitted to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital (N&N) on November 10 last year.
He had previously been bed-bound for at least three days.
Area coroner Samantha Goward said that while at the N&N, his condition deteriorated and he died the following day.
The medical cause of death was given as "sepsis of an unknown origin" due to, or as a result of, metastatic colon cancer.
A formal identification statement was provided by Mr Gauci's sister, Rita, who said that her brother was born on December 14, 1955, in Tunisia, North Africa.
A fundraiser launched online in honour of Mr Gauci's charity of choice, Mind, has raised more than £980.

The fundraiser said: "Vincent was a treasured son, brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin and nephew.
"Such a kind-hearted soul, special and a strong man.
"Forever loved and missed.
"Instead of flowers, the family would like for those who wish to, to kindly donate to the chosen charity Mind, as this was dear to Vince and his life."
A full inquest has been listed to take place at the court on December 19. It is expected to last one day.
