A Norfolk lifeboat station held a spectacular sandcastle competition, attracting more than 100 young participants.

The event, organised by the Hunstanton and West Norfolk Lifeboat Guild, took place on Old Hunstanton Beach on August 7.

Participants were given 45 minutes to create their sand masterpieces, with designs ranging from Olympic themes to sea creatures and RNLI-inspired creations.

The event proved to be a tough call for the judges.

They praised the creativity and effort of the participants, stating that the decision would be very close.

Despite stormy weather predictions, weather experts from the station team optimistically believed the rain would hold off for the event.

Stormy Stan, the station mascot, made a grand appearance on the beach, arriving on an ice cream man’s vintage Land Rover to the cheer of the crowd.

Prizes included vouchers to spend at the station's souvenir shop.

Winners were chosen in two categories: ages two to seven and eight and above, with second and third places also recognised.
