A Norfolk father is set to take on an epic 400km run to support the N&N Hospitals Charity.

Jamie Hepher, whose two sons were treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the N&N, has chosen the demanding multi-marathon as his fundraiser.

The father-of-two will be running around the perimeter of Norfolk, aiming to complete 35km each day between September 5 and September 15.

This gruelling journey was inspired by the care his sons, Oscar and Noah, received on the NICU ward after they were born with breathing difficulties.

Mr Hepher said: “They both spent the first week of their lives on the NICU ward, and my wife and I experienced first-hand the care with which staff handle every situation.

“The staff on the ward go above and beyond, not only for the vulnerable children in their care but for their families too who are experiencing every parent’s worst nightmare.

“Fortunately, our two boys only had to spend a short while on NICU, but lots of babies and their families aren’t so lucky."

Mr Hepher, who lives in Norwich, credits his training schedule of running 6-7 times a week for getting him ready for the challenge ahead.

He said: “Training has had a really positive impact on my overall fitness - I feel as ready now as I’ll ever be.”

Community members have pitched in to help Mr Hepher as he quickly nears his target of £2000 for the NICU.

“The money raised from my run will fund lifesaving equipment, additional training for staff and even pay for accommodation for parents so that they’re able to stay close to their baby while they’re on the ward,” Mr Hepher said.

His run will start and end at the Orange Tree in Thornham, where everyone is invited to celebrate the event's conclusion on September 15, from 1pm.
