The sun smiled on Sheringham as thousands of people gathered in the town for its annual parade.

The festive procession entertained locals and visitors on Wednesday, August 7, and was headed this year by a RNLI lifeboat, to mark the charity's 200th anniversary.

Stuart McClean, chairman of the carnival committee, said: "It was a brilliant night. The weather was absolutely fantastic.

"There was a great turn-out of floats and walking groups. All in all it was a great success."

Up to 7,000 people gathered in the town, lining the streets, to watch the colourful parade as it made its way through the town.

The route took participants from Station Road car park to Cromer Road, then along Beeston Road and Wyndham Road into the town centre to the clock tower, before returning to Station Road car park.

Mr McClean said: "It's a huge financial fillip for the shopkeepers. Lots of them stay open late."

Sheringham Carnival had kicked off on Saturday, August 3, when the carnival queen Kelly Watts and her attendants Amy Randall and Jessica Nolson rode into town on Harley Davidsons.

They were crowned on Sunday, August 4. Also part of the ceremony were the festival princess Lily Dowsett-Olby and prince Nicky Watts.

The festival is not over yet. On Thursday, August 8, people can enjoy a vintage tea party at St Joseph's Hall and a concert by the Shantymen at Oddfellows.

The festival then wraps up on Friday, August 9, with events including a performance by the Sheringham Ukulele Band at the clock tower and a pirate party at the Tyneside Club, and the "infamous" duck race - for which the committee has already sold £1,000 worth of rubber ducks.

The carnival beach day, organised by Sheringham’s Reef Leisure Centre, took place on Monday.
