A hidden gem has closed for work to provide new access to its viewpoint overlooking Norwich.

Kett’s Heights will remain closed until Friday to allow for more resurfacing work in the park.

An open space owned by Norwich City Council, Kett's Heights in Thorpe Hamlet is known for offering panoramic views of the city. The step entrance at Kett's HeightsThe step entrance at Kett's Heights (Image: Sonya Duncan)

Once the new surface is complete, the viewpoint will finally become accessible for wheelchair users on August 16.

Future development of the site had previously been restricted due to the lack of access.

Surrounded by wooded grounds, the park features the remains of a medieval chapel known as Kett's Castle alongside 19th-century garden terraces.

The site holds historical significance as the spot where Robert Kett, the leader of Kett's Rebellion, and his 10,000 followers besieged the city in 1549.

In 2015, the Friends of Kett’s Heights was established to help restore the site in hopes of transforming the park into a more welcoming attraction for the local community.
