Increased footfall in Norfolk towns is the goal of the 'Love Your Market Town' grants.

Councils are encouraging new strategies to boost visitor numbers after a successful pilot last year.

The fund, backed by Norfolk County Council, Breckland Council and Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk, is offering grants up to £2,000.

These funds are aimed at groups and businesses in Breckland and West Norfolk aiming to increase their area's attractiveness.

Councillor Fabian Eagle said: "I am really passionate about our market towns and how important they are to our local economy.

"This scheme, based on a successful pilot last year, asks businesses and groups to develop new ideas to give locals a great reason to visit their town centres."

In the past, the fund supported a variety of successful ventures like a distinctive display by a group of knitters and an outdoor cinema screening.

Also benefiting were a food festival and a pride celebration.

Deputy leader of the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, councillor Simon Ring, reiterated his support for the initiative.

He said: “We are excited to be funding the Love Your Market Town initiative again this year so that we can back the very best ideas to generate footfall and increase activity in our local market towns."

Councillor Paul Claussen, executive member for economic development and growth at Breckland District Council, said: "We've set aside some additional funding so that we can back the very best initiatives again this year."

Applications are currently open to groups in select towns within Breckland and West Norfolk.

The deadline to express interest is 5pm on September 13, 2024.

Those shortlisted will be invited in Autumn 2024 to present their propositions before a judging panel.
