Police are hunting for the driver of a white car after a young child was seriously injured in a hit-and-run.
The child is in Addenbrooke's Hospital after the incident on the A134 Brandon Road in Thetford.
Sgt Ben Hawkins said the driver may have fled "out of panic or fear" but he is urging them to come forward and share their account of what happened.
Emergency services were called to the crash at 6.50pm on Monday and the child was initially taken to the West Suffolk Hospital before being transferred to Addenbrooke's.
At the time of the collision, the white Skoda Fabia with a black roof was reportedly travelling towards the crossroads with the Chase pub, having come from the direction of the A11 and Canterbury Way.
People in the area are being asked to check their dashcam footage for a white car that was driving erratically or had visible damage.
Businesses and homes in Bury Road and London Road are also asked to review their CCTV and Ring doorbell footage.
"I would urge anyone who witnessed this collision or has information about the vehicle or driver involved to come forward," Sgt Hawkins said. "The young child suffered serious injuries but is receiving treatment and remains in a stable condition.
“Unfortunately, we have very limited information on the vehicle involved, other than it was white.
"Our investigations are in the early stages but clearly any dash cam footage from drivers travelling in this area at the time could be crucial in finding out who was involved.
“People who fail to stop at collision scenes might do so out of panic or fear but we would like to take this opportunity to appeal directly to the driver involved to come forward and provide their account of what happened so we can understand the full circumstances of the incident.”
Police refused to confirm the age or gender of the injured child.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via 101 or email nicholas.harris@norfolk.police.uk and quote reference NC-05082024-434.
