Plans to build homes in a builder's yard have been refused after concerns that plans for the development were "visually unattractive".

The applicant, Mr J Colclough, hoped to develop three homes on the land to the east of Manships Farm Cottage in Ormesby St Michael, a vacant builders' yard.

However, the planning department at Great Yarmouth Borough Council rejected the plans stating that they are "visually unattractive and unwelcoming" and do not "reflect the surrounding prevailing linear pattern".

They add that the application is not in keeping with the "character of the surrounding area".

The council also objected to the plans because the site outlined is "outside of the development boundary".

As a result, the plans were objected "to minimise the need to travel" for people to shops which are roughly a mile away.

They add that the highway and road safety "is not attractive to encourage cycling" as a means of daily transport.

The document also states the development would "likely result in vehicle conflict and confusion" on the roads due to the additional three access points.
