A UEA lecturer has found surprise success on TikTok after her educational videos went viral to millions of viewers.

Sarah Brownsword started using the social media platform as a teaching tool for her post-grad students and didn't expect to see her following grow to more than 18,000 people.

Her bite-sized videos on grammar, punctuation and vocabulary under the handle "grammarslammer" have since been viewed more than six million times.

"Lots of our students come to us with no prior knowledge of grammar at all," Sarah explained.

"I made videos previously which I put on Blackboard but they just weren't watching them so I thought 'why don't I try TikTok?'"

At first, Sarah's videos were limited to the students she taught but when she widened the topics to cover more aspects of grammar and language, her audience grew.

Some of her top-performing content includes "15 British Insults in Danger of Extinction" which received 116.9k views and "Parenthesis" with 159.8k views.

Despite her obvious success, Sarah doesn't wish to label herself an "influencer", saying the term is often associated with people trying to sell something like makeup and beauty products which she doesn't want to do.
