A bungling football club thief was caught after his DNA was found on a sock used to cover a CCTV camera.Β
Lewis Norton Cook, 20, admitted stealing thousands of pounds worth of ground keeping equipment during a break-in at Norton Athletic FC.
Norwich Magistratesβ Court heard his efforts to protect his identity from security cameras had been his downfall as police were able to analyse the sock left at the scene and get a DNA match.Β

Asif Akram, prosecuting, said staff at the club had discovered on May 13 that a storage unit on Loddon Road in Norton Subcourse, near Loddon, had been forced open after a lock was cut with a grinder.

Items including a number of power tools and a ride-on John Deere lawn mower worth Β£8,000 had been stolen.
Norton Cook, of High Street in Lowestoft, pleaded guilty to burglary. He will be sentenced on August 20.
Annette Hall, mitigating, said: βIt wasnβt just him, someone else was involved in this. This is a young man who got involved and then couldnβt get out of it.βΒ
