A weather warning has been extended for Norfolk as the county is set to experience thunderstorms earlier than expected. 

The Met Office has brought forward and extended the yellow weather warning which now starts at midnight on Wednesday until midnight on Thursday.

According to the forecaster, multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Thursday and may lead to some disruption.

Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and there is a small chance that communities could become cut off by flooded roads. 

There is also a slight chance that power cuts and loss of other services could occur.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "While there is some uncertainty, thunderstorms may affect southeast England during the early hours of Thursday, perhaps also extending into parts of East Anglia.

"Where these occur, rain accumulations of 25mm to 40 mm are possible in one hour, with a small risk of over 60mm in two to three hours, and accompanied by frequent lightning at times.

"Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are then expected to develop through Thursday afternoon and evening across parts of central, southern and eastern England, and perhaps also south Wales.

"These have the potential to produce 50 mm or more in one to two hours, along with gusty winds, large hail, and the risk of surface water flooding."
