A man was seen walking around a north Norfolk market town while wielding a knife.
Several eyewitnesses reported seeing somebody wearing a balaclava and holding a large weapon in the Stanley Road area of North Walsham on Wednesday evening.
A Norfolk police spokeswoman has confirmed officers were deployed to Stanley Road just after 9pm.
They conducted "an extensive, large area search" but did not find the suspect.
People are urged to report any possible future sightings by calling 999.
