Preparations are in full force for a 10-day carnival taking place in North North in early August.

The Wells Carnival, which has been held for over 100 years, will be running between August 2 and August 11.

Over 40 volunteers help bring the carnival together and ensure it runs smoothly over the 10-day period.

Fran Marshall, Wells Carnival secretary, said: "The event takes over a year to plan and many of our crew take annual leave to run the event.

The programme offers visitors a fete day, a food and craft fair, and Carnival Day.

The second Saturday is traditionally Carnival Day, which includes a parade around the town with floats and fancy dress.

The evening programme includes live music, as well as Screen on the Green, which will be held on Monday, August 5.

"The Screen on the Green is an open air film screening. Just turn up with your chair, find a space, sit back and enjoy the film.

"We are also holding a raft race on the July 27 at 12pm. Unfortunately, the tides weren't playing ball this year, hence it's happening outside of the week," said Mrs Marshall.

The carnival is funded through sponsorship and donations from both individuals and businesses.

Last year, the group of volunteers and organisers donated over £14,000 among 27 groups.

The money raised from bucket collections, as well as from the carnival funds and the Holkham Charitable Foundation, is shared between local charities at the event's AGM in October.

Many of the events at the carnival are free to attend, however visitors may be asked for a donation or a small charge to cover costs.

Some events are also ticketed, but more information can be found at: https://wellscarnival.co.uk/programme-2024/
