A city yoga company has enjoyed a boom in business after opening its new city centre home.

Norwich Yoga Central has moved from its former site in Orford Place to a new ground-floor studio in Ber Street after rising rents and the threat of a Debenhams demolition saw them looking for a new home.

Business owner and yoga teacher Tess Bickerstaff, 53, is overjoyed with the new space, in a building just behind John Lewis.

"I love it here," she said.

"It feels calmer and the energy is different here.

"Our customers have been saying what a light and welcoming space it is.

"It has been great."

Tess decided to look for a new base for the business after work to demolish the former Debenhams looked more and more likely to go ahead.

The site would have been a stone's throw from the former studio and would have led to years of construction noise.

The rising cost of rent helped Tess to make her mind up and she found the new studio on Ber Street, which was launched last Friday, with around 60 people attending the launch event.

With the change of location comes a chance to shake up the classes on offer at the studio.

"Now that we are here and in a ground floor studio, we can offer things to people with lower mobility, because there are no stairs," said Tess.

"We are looking to offer chair yoga classes, more daytime classes and restorative classes for people suffering from cancer or other illnesses.

"We have also opened up a six-month yoga teacher training course which has been really popular and only has one space left out of the 10 on offer."

New members can sign up for a free class via the Norwich Yoga Central website.
