The body of a former detective chief inspector was found at a Norfolk marina last month, a court has heard. 

Robert Kennett was pulled out of the river behind Brundall Bay Marina off Riverside Estate on the evening of May 10. 

An inquest into his death was opened at Norfolk Coroner’s Court, based at County Hall in Norwich, on June 27. 

Area coroner Samantha Goward said Mr Kennett’s body was identified by Peter Reeve, the manager of Marine Power, and had been declared dead at the scene. 

She gave the primary medical cause of death as “drowning, hypotensive heart disease, alcohol intoxication, and type two diabetes mellitus”. 

Mrs Goward also confirmed that he was born on December 22, 1957, in Canterbury, Kent, and worked as a detective chief inspector before retiring. 

The court is awaiting evidence from the attending police officers, Mr Kennett’s GP, and next-of-kin. 

A full inquest to determine the official cause of death will take place at the court in November.
